A Contrast of Styles at the Spanish Monastery

Planning this wedding was a challenging experience and a first for me. When the Mother of the Bride, who resides in Panama, contacted me about three months before the wedding date she was in Miami for a few days and wanted to explain some details of the wedding. Since she was leaving and not returning for a few months I needed to orchestrate the Wedding from long distance via emails and telephone calls. I met the Bride, who lives in Washington D.C., two weeks before the wedding. Most of the planning was done but there were some things I wanted her to approve in person. We visited the Florist, the Caterer and the Cake designer among other vendors. Everything went well as I expected. Next time I met with Mother and Daughter was on the Monday before the Wedding to do a final walk through at the Monastery and go over every detail. The concept was creating a contemporary look against the background of the old Monastery. The Cloisters which surround the Central Patio was to be used to set the dinner tables which were five 4’ x 16’ tables topped with mirrors. The tablecloths, the napkins and the chairs were black with silver candelabras low centerpieces and candles. The flowers in the centerpieces and the wine goblets were red. I used candles everywhere in all sizes from votives to some 25” high and also hanging from the trees in the Patio to create the romantic atmosphere. As lounge furniture I decided to use antique love seats and tables rather than the usual contemporary ones and it worked out beautifully. Finally when the big day arrived everything fell into place making “the dream “ come true as expressed by both Mother and Daughter (Groom too) in thank you letters they wrote me.
